Earlier this summer, I had the huge privilege to visit Romania and help with the Local Philanthropy Workshop. It was so much fun and it was an amazing experience to work with people like Chris Worman and meet with so many local nonprofit and community changemakers. In July 2010: 1,555,360 total number of users in Romania.

These open challenges help activists, nonprofits, journalists, techies, and community members identify, refine, build, and launch technology tools to solve pressing local and regional problems. All donations to WCK leverage local restaurants to provide warm meals to Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Romania, and the surrounding areas, as well as to five Ukrainian cities for those staying in the country where food access is scarce.

These countries are, in the main, ones that share a border with Ukraine: Poland, Romania, Hungary, Moldova, and Slovakia. While almost a third of grants went to organizations in Ukraine, recipient countries reflect giving to local chapters of the Red Cross and other international relief organizations, or to their Geneva-based headquarters.
