Instead of writing a post and soliciting comments (my typical approach), I used an online polling tool to create a simple game where you could read short provocations about questionable revenue sources and give each source an ethical thumbs-up or down. but it taught me even more about online interaction. 3,125 people viewed the game.

At level two, the visitor has some interactive experience (pushing buttons, etc.) The screen plays an interactive show that invites visitors to vote on a variety of issues related to human rights. Pressing the buttons was not particularly thrilling, and I never saw kids playing the usual bang-on-the-buttons game. with the issue.

Today, the Luce Center at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) is launching what they claim is the first ever alternate reality game (ARG) in a museum. The majority of the book is a tour of the conceptualized physical institution, with smaller sections devoted to the political history of the project and the activities (mostly participatory, distributed, and digital) that the team undertook from 2009-2011 to start building their constituency. I wondered what would happen if that interaction was scaled up. I could see a great online campaign, map series, or touchscreen interactive where you can browse people and their recommendations. This might sound unlikely, but with the right instruction set and a kind of game piece or card to use as a prompt, I think it could work.

In fact, it's impossible for people in the car to have any kind of sustained interaction with people in line, because a. The interaction between strangers is necessarily short. It's also a reason that people will game with strangers; in that case, the games' rules form the partial barrier that facilitates social interaction.

I’ve long admired Improv Everywhere , the NYC-based participatory public art group. In this way, the MP3 experiment is an example of the ways that technological barriers can become benefits by mediating otherwise uncomfortable interactions. A friend sent me this photo of an exhibit at SFMOMA, saying he had encountered this interactive on a first date and that it sparked a lot of discussion and personal sharing between him and his date.
