In honor of Gerry Davis, April 2018 My mentor passed away earlier this month. I have had the benefit of numerous mentors over my long career, but Gerry Davis was The Mentor. Gerry’s incredible advice guided me along my entire path, and so many crucial turning points went well because of Gerry’s invaluable insight and guidance.

Board members are personally responsible for the organization’s compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This includes the laws relating to financial reporting and fundraising. Is that even possible?

Words of advice? Make sure you keep open lines of communication with your mentor and plan on meeting on a regular basis so you are provided valuable input along the way. Her excitement was so exhilarating! Make sure you understand the commitment for being certified. Make sure you do not rush the process.

Toyama offers up strong criticisms as well as constructive advice about how to best apply technology to social problems. His “Law of Amplification” was particularly insightful: “technology’s primary effect is to amplify human forces.” A mentor is going to have a more powerful impact over somebody than YouTube videos.
